Prada's Parisian Pop-up

This winter Prada will conquer yet another fashion capital with its new pop-up location in the City of Lights. The mega-brand has created what looks to be a cross between the famous Mirabel Bridge and the Italian luxury firm’s original store in Milan. The boutique’s designer, Roberto Baciocchi, took the inspirational elements of the Mirabel Bridge and incorporated them into the store through faux metalwork that wraps around the dramatic staircase; perspective illusions, and even the store’s lights hang from metal support-like beams trussed across the ceiling. The surreal boutique on Place Beauvau 92 has a hint of the Milan store with similar checkered marble floors and freestanding display cases. The interior is lined with mannequins dressed in Prada to look like pedestrians enjoying the Parisian landmark. The store will carry a selection of women's ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and footwear.

Miss Universe Hits the Runway

Eighty-eight of the world’s most beautiful women were practically born to strut the catwalk. Now it’s their chance. On August 12, The Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort in the Bahamas will host the Miss Universe Pageant fashion show, Islands of the World Fashion Week. Unlike past years, the women will be outfitted by three Bahamian designers, utilizing the locally manufactured fabrics of Androsia and Bahama Hand Prints for their creations. Rachel Turnquest-Garcia of Rachel's Boutique, Basheva Eve of La Maison de Besh, and Sabrina Francis of SE'B Fashions were the three designers chosen. "Not only is this significant as the first time that The Bahamas is hosting the Miss Universe Pageant, but also because the fashion show will feature another aspect of the islands' creativity and culture as displayed in fashion. This will certainly have the potential of catapulting the local fashion industry into the international spotlight," said Owen Bethel, Chairman of the Host Planning Committee and Pageant Coordinator. This fashion show features more then just the warm breeze and tropical flowers of the Bahamas. It is taking a dive into the islands' talent by showcasing undiscovered gems in the fashion world.

Stella's Toon Town

Stella's ads from fall/winter '09-'10 just may be our favorite thus far. Model Sigrid Agren was photographed in the woods surrounded by those lovable toon animals from Disney. "I'm a huge Bambi fan, and the film reminds me of my mum [the late Linda McCartney]," said McCartney. "And we wanted to have some fun. The clothes in the campaign are looking quite fierce, and we wanted to contrast them with the innocence of Bambi".

Anna's Private Party

We aren't sure we can wait for the much anticipated documentary, The September Issue. While magazines have already launched their latest issues featuring full page ads of the new film. Paris Couture Week: Afshin Feiz

Afshin Feiz: “You don’t have to be beautiful…but it helps”. This is the playful title of the multicultural designer Afshin Feiz’s Spring/Summer 2010 couture collection, shown last week in Paris. The collection is inspired by Christopher Marley, who is an American artist that works with exotic insects by bringing out their beauty. The 6-piece collection consists of intricate constructions in silk organza using vibrant colors. This emphasizing power of color and arrangement use is what you see in Feiz’s work, instead of the actual inspiration. Grey tones contradict bright purple and yellow and embroideries make up fantasy insects. Feiz’s inspiration source has been love, but for this line he looked at beauty for what it is. Beauty comes in many forms and you can find a sense of it in anything. Insects, for example…

Star Power

sponsored by:
Boucheron Joaillerie

The stars have allied for designer Marc Newson who created an enchanting jewelry piece for Boucheron. The hypnotic necklace is made up of raised clusters of diamonds and sapphires in nuanced shades, with a large diamond whorl at its center. The color palette of white and deep to light blue diamonds will have you thinking crystal clear night sky under a galaxy of revolving stars. The necklace looks as though it is floating. This is because of roughly 2,000 pavé stones, some as small as 1.7 mm, positioned on invisible settings giving the piece a weightless look. This caliber of jewelry is nothing new for Boucheron. Their jewelry functions as wearable art with inspiration ranging from pastries to casinos and even space. Get free delivery at Boucheron in July 2009.

Jessica Alba Talks Eco-Chic

When all-around beauty Jessica Alba gave a few minutes of personal advice during her Vogue photo shoot about going green and being fashionable, we couldn’t help but listen.

Alba tells us about her composer that isn’t smelly, her made-out-of-tires grass that doesn’t need watering and her vinegar mixed with water cleaning secret. Also, she recommends organic and eco friendly products to make us look as fashionable as her and daughter Honor. Bamboo is a great organic resource to every conscious fashionista.

According to Alba, awareness is the first step and we at Runway To Retail concur. The biggest trend nowadays is to think about the environment we live in. And if we can dress like Jessica Alba while doing so – it’s a win-win situation!

The Magic of Dior

sponsored by:
Boucheron Joaillerie

Galliano did it again for the latest Christian Dior collection during Paris couture week. The fashion genius brought the design house back to its essence by incorporating "The New Look" that Dior introduced during the 40s. It was all about the art of fashion. The models strutted down the in-house runway slowly giving the audience the opportunity to view the pieces from every angle. Admiring the bright colored dresses, suits and jackets, it’s noticeable how the designer took Dior back to basic, but modernized shapes. In true Dior fashion, the sexy undergarments worn as clothing were amazingly crafted and set the tone for the show. Girdles, corsets, and silk slips – the showing of spectacular lingerie brought a new dimension to the theme of basics.

Eco Designers on the Rise

A look from fall/winter '09 by CMarchuska

CMarchuska
by Christine Marchuska is an eco-friendly, wholly organic (all pieces made of an eco-friendly/organic blend of 92% bamboo/8% spandex) collection that gives you all the quality of high fashion but for a fraction of the price. Think little black dress or your favorite v-neck made out of the most sustainable fibers available in the industry. CMarchuska is all about a flattering fit that function easily from day to night. Here's a look at just how sexy eco fashion can be...

Yana Khromova, originally from Russia, established a vibrant and unique line of clothes that she calls Yana K. All of the designs are vintage inspired and each piece is made in her downtown L.A. design house. Yana K captures the true meaning of chic individualism.

Chicago native and graduate of London College of Fashion Keith Lissner, launched his self-titled collection with great success. His attention to detail has not gone unnoticed through his use of French seams and inner corsetry. In addition to being fashion conscious, Lissner is money conscious as well. He’s created a “recession collection” called Keith that carries several party dresses for less then $300.

We’ve finally found it, a young and contemporary line without the markup. 213 Industry is a brand focused on a simple line with heavy detailing. This funky, yet romantic collection of clothing offers something new and affordable to the boutique circuit. With prices as low as $35-85 for tops and $55-120 for dresses even those of us on “funemployment” can sport these trendy looks.
-Tracey Johnsen
