Anna Wintour hosts Dinner for Obama

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour hosted one of the country’s most important citizens at her Sullivan Street home. President Barack Obama dined at Wintour’s home for a fund-raising event to benefit the Democratic National Committee. Obama enjoyed dinner with a small crowd of donors including Calvin Klein and Donna Karan after his appearance on “The View” earlier in the day. This won't be Wintour’s first big event, in 2008 along with Calvin Klein she hosted a party with big name guests including Michelle Obama, Shelby Bryan and Andre Leon Talley. We're sure this event will be one guests will be talking about for years to come. - Brittany S. Gavin

Anna Wintour on David Letterman Promoting The September Issue

Anna Wintour, clad in Carolina Herrara Resort '10, made a rare television appearance Monday night on David Letterman's "Late Show" promoting the documentary, The September Issue, which showcases the production of Vogue's biggest issue in their 117-year history. Anna joked about her icy image, while also showing her strictness with her staff. "Well, I'm very decisive and I try and give very clear direction to the people that I'm working with, and sometimes, unfortunately, they don't hear the answer that they would like to hear," Wintour said. Letterman admitted he rarely read Vogue, but knew of her."You are bigger than what you do for a living. Is that a fair assessment?" Letterman asked. "Well, I, uh - I read in The New York Times this week that I'm an ice queen, I'm the Sun King, I'm an alien fleeing from District 9 and I'm a dominatrix," Wintour joked. "So I reckon that makes me a lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space. What do you think?" Check out the video below.

The Buzz on Peter Som at Bill Blass

Ever since Fashionista reported on Thursday that Peter Som might be leaving Bill Blass, news has been all over the place. Here's what we gathered from all the raucous. Disclaimer: it gets a little confusing.

WWD reported the same day that Som actually did resign, finally fed up by the financial trouble at parent company Nexcen.

Later that day, Portfolio said that Som is not leaving, but renegotiating his contract.

Then Friday morning, Fashion Week Daily announced that Som is actually bound by contract to stay until the spring 2009 showing (even though Blass cancelled their runway show in the upcoming Fashion Week and opted for an editor presentation instead).

Finally, WWD reported this morning that Som is indeed staying with the fashion house, despite the fact that Nexcen is definitely broke and can't afford what Som wants to do with the label. At the same time, they need him to stay on so they can sell the company to someone who can. Add on top of that the fact that Blass hasn't paid Som in months, and you've got one definitely tense situation.

Thankfully, our faithful knight in shining Prada has come to the rescue. According to the New York Post, Anna Wintour actually convinced Som to stay on for the label's sake, at least until a deal can be struck with a bidder. After the past year of mixed reviews of Som's collections, let's hope Wintour's support isn't a lost cause.

Obama's Vogue Endorsement

There’s no denying that Michelle Obama has style. Designers are clamoring to get their hands on her, and that cute dress she wore on The View had even couture-seekers fighting crowds at White House | Black Market, not to mention her continuous good style choices from our very own Chicago designer Maria Pinto.

So when we read in The New York Times that Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley are on the latest list of bundlers raising $100,000 to $200,000 for Barack Obama’s campaign, we weren’t surprised. After all, tickets to Vogue’s huge fundraiser in Michelle’s honor last month did cost $1,000 to $2,300 a person for the cocktail reception alone, and the following dinner at Calvin Klein’s house cost $10,000 a head.

We hope Michelle keeps up her chic choices, now that she’s got Wintour’s blessing. So far, we love what we’ve seen. Thankoon suit, Isabela Toledo gown, a Tom Binns necklace she reportedly bought herself – it’s refreshing to see such daring decisions in politics.
