The Posh Dress Line

We are looking forward to the launch of Victoria Beckham's dress line that is rumored to debut during New York Fashion Week. Her designs won't make the catwalk, but instead Miss Beckham will invite top editors and buyers to view her dresses by appointment only. Its seems Posh has turned a new leaf and is set to prove us all wrong. The designs are said to be more upscale starting from $1,200. Earlier this year she spoke to WWD and was quoted as saying, “It will be something completely different from what I’ve ever done. I'm just putting it together at the moment, but they will be very upscale retailing from $1,200. I’m going to use very expensive fabrics and finishes and lots of embroideries." Look out for Posh’s new line this fall.

Jimmy Choo's Gold

At just 19 years old Rebecca Adlington the young British swimmer has become the greatest sporting success by breaking the world record for her 400m and 800m freestyling while in Beijing and in the process won two double medals, a real treat for the Brits. To make things even more interesting she was treated to a pair of £460 Golden Jimmy Choo shoes, said to be made from snake’s skin she was quoted as saying “I loooove shoes. I want one pair for every outfit. I've got well over 30 pairs, but you can never have enough.”

Valentino: The Last Emperor

Appropriately titled, Valentino: The Last Emperor screened at the Venice Film Festival yesterday. We don't even want to think about where the fashion world would be without this visionary designer. The documentary comes very appropriately at the retirement of the fashion designer after 45 amazing years in the fashion industry.

Not only about his life as a designer, The Last Emperor follows Valentino's personal life as well. Director and American Vanity Fair contributor Matt Tyrnauer spent two years with Valentino, his family, and employees filming their everyday lives and of course special events. With over 250 hours of footage, Tyrnauer dealt with the challenging task of condensing the material into 96 minutes of what I am sure is pure bliss. It's a rare opportunity when we get to see the inner workings of a profound fashion designer such as Valentino.

The documentary premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and will also be screened at other festivals before it becomes available for all of us mouth watering fans desperately waiting to view what is sure to be an amazing film and more importantly, a great tribute to an extraordinary man.

iPhone Your Way to New York Fashion Week

We live in a world where information is right at our fingertips and the new iPhone application from style.com is a prime example. This week, syle.com introduced a new iPhone application, which is designed to enable the fashion obsessed to have full access to the runway no matter where they live.

The application (which is available only for iPhone) will initially offer videos and photos from couture collections in July. It will then be updated regularly beginning September 5 with the New York ready-to-wear collections.
Jamie Pallot, the editorial director of Conde Nast Web sites, told the New York Times that the morning runway shows will be available by the afternoon and the evening shows should be available by the next morning.

Pallot has tested an early version and you can expect features such as; a welcome screen listing new shows on one menu and blog items on another, ability to open a window that shows the looks in a grid, you will be able to enlarge images and even be able to reveal the model's name and a concise review of the show by tapping on any of the photos from the shows.
The hope is to eventually be able to include photos and videos from hundreds of shows in New York, Paris, London and Milan.

Before Chanel, There Was Coco

Talk about reaching the pinnacle of your life, career, and of the entire fashion world. At least two movies have been or are being made about the legendary Coco Chanel. Where would the fashion world be without this glamorous woman?

One of the three projects is a two part miniseries on Lifetime starring Shirley MacLaine. It follows both Coco as a young woman and after she became successful as an older woman. Okay, I know it's Lifetime. But, it's also Coco Chanel! Coco Chanel will premiere on September 13.

And now, the movie we are all anxiously awaiting: Audrey Tautou, the beautiful lead in The Da Vinci Code and Amelie, will play Coco as a young woman. Movie critics, goers, and fashionistas alike are all desperately waiting for this French film to come out. It will follow Coco as a young woman before she became famous. Anne Fontaine is directing Coco avant Chanel, which is already filming.

How excited are we about Coco avant Chanel? Well, we think we might just have to learn French perfectly and fly to France to watch the movie where Coco originally made her mark on the fashion world.

Political Style

Everyone’s talking about how Barack Obama’s daughters stole the show at the DNC this week, but we were captivated by his wife Michelle’s irresistible sense of style.

Her cerulean-blue dress was tasteful, incredibly elegant and flattering, and Michelle accentuated it perfectly with a turquoise star at the point of her V-neck. The dress was made by no other than Chicago’s very own Maria Pinto, whose designs are worn often by Michelle.

Fashion media definitely approved of the dress; raves from L.A. Times and CBS News were just part of the ongoing discussion of Michelle’s impeccable fashion choices. Check out photos to judge for yourself.

Pink BlackBerry Launch at LA Intermix

Kim Kardashian

With impeccable style and pink BlackBerry phones at hand, celebrities and fashionistas alike graced the “pink” carpet to celebrate the launch of the new BlackBerry Pink Curve from Verizon Wireless in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the fashionable store Intermix.

On Wednesday night, the young and stylish gathered at the Intermix boutique located on the trendy Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles to receive the new pink BlackBerry before its official release to the public.

Celebrities such as Marcia Cross, Rashida Jones, and Kim Kardashian gushed about how they love shopping at Intermix and adore the new pink BlackBerry phones. “I just love the fact that it’s pink, and I don’t care about anything else!” Kardashian told Factio. “And I shop at Intermix a lot. I live kind of near here, and when I drive by, I’ll see the windows and stop by and I love it.”

Marcia Cross of Desperate Housewives

Guests were treated to drinks and sweets as they perused the store and mingled to the sounds of DJ Ruckus. Pink and purple lights created a saccharine and light-hearted ambience while guests admired the enhanced features of their new toy. Many were busy taking photo booth pictures at the giant BlackBerry-shaped camera while their pictures were displayed on a large screen in the store. Others were multitasking as they browsed the endless racks of designer goodies Intermix had to offer while enjoying the soiree.

“I’m really liking Zac Posen, and I recently got amazing Giuseppe Zanotti boots here as well,” gushed Kardashian. “When I’m not shopping at my own store Dash, I would definitely be shopping here.”

photos by Jean Lee

As each guest left with a new pink BlackBerry Curve, they looked excited and pleased to see that the blush-toned phone was both functionally professional and undeniably chic. Celebs in attendance also included Marcia Cross, Rebecca Gayheart, Emmy Rossum, Kim Kardashian, Lake Bell, Rashida Jones, Sanaa Lathan, Sarah Chalke, Bill Bellamy, Chris Evans.

Jerry Ford Dies

The man who started one of the most recognizable modeling agencies in the world, Jerry Ford, died at the age of 83 on Sunday in Morristown, N.J.

In the 1940s modeling was seen as more of a hobby than a profession. But when Jerry Ford implemented some of his ideas he changed the face of modeling forever. He introduced a payment system for models where they would be paid for their work in advance and then later would recoup his fees from various clients.

He is also credited with creating the first contracts for models to represent specific brands exclusively. He negotiated the first such contract for Lauren Hutton to represent Revlon in 1974.
"Before Jerry came along, there were only robber barons who were out there running modeling schools," Carmen Dell'Orefice, who has modeled with the Ford agency for 60 years told the New York Times.

Ford also managed the early modeling careers of Jane Fonda, Candice Bergan, Brooke Shields, and Ali MacGraw. The legend who died of endocarditis, an inflammation of the heart, will be sorely missed.

Kate Moss to Launch Velvet Hour

The fabulousness of Kate Moss seems to have no boundaries. The once "heroin-chic" model of the '90's has taken off in many commercial endeavors with much success. Her latest venture is her second fragrance, Velvet Hour. Her second fragrance is supposed to stir up feelings similar to the ones she feels at dusk. She describes that time of day as very sensual and sexy, so she has attempted to translate that into her fragrance.

Velvet Hour's notes include blue pepper, cashmere incense, freesia, patchouli, nutmeg, sandalwood, amber, ebony, and wood. The feminine woody scent seems to be a trend in fall fragrances, so we'll have to see how fragrance developers can make a wood scent feel feminine and soft.

While the bottle does not convey the elegance Moss seems to expect her fragrance to inspire, hopefully the fragrance itself will be elegant enough make us forget about the I Dream of Jeannie-like bottle.

Moss will be promoting the fragrance with the line, "Embrace the night." The Eau de Toilette is currently being sold in Europe and will likely launch stateside later this Fall.
