Celebrity favorite Narciso Rodriguez is determined to fight the economy in style – or shall we say, scent. Rodriguez told WWD that although his company usually grows 20 percent every year, 2008 was an exception. The designer’s solution is a follow-up to his first and only fragrance, Narciso Rodriguez for Her, which is beloved in the fashion and beauty industries.
“The economy is such that it’s a tough moment for everyone,” he said. “We are trudging through this Bush mess and looking forward to the next steps.”
The new scent will launch in January, closing a year adjustments for Rodriguez. In 2008, he sold a stake in his company to Liz Claiborne Inc. and changed production facilities and fabric sources to expand his collection.
He plans to reveal a new ad campaign with Beauty Prestige International, and will promote his scent at the Deauville Film Festival in September. Look out for his signature silky gowns, because he’s bound to dress a good number of actresses for the red carpet as well.
