Valentino: The Last Emperor

Appropriately titled, Valentino: The Last Emperor screened at the Venice Film Festival yesterday. We don't even want to think about where the fashion world would be without this visionary designer. The documentary comes very appropriately at the retirement of the fashion designer after 45 amazing years in the fashion industry.

Not only about his life as a designer, The Last Emperor follows Valentino's personal life as well. Director and American Vanity Fair contributor Matt Tyrnauer spent two years with Valentino, his family, and employees filming their everyday lives and of course special events. With over 250 hours of footage, Tyrnauer dealt with the challenging task of condensing the material into 96 minutes of what I am sure is pure bliss. It's a rare opportunity when we get to see the inner workings of a profound fashion designer such as Valentino.

The documentary premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and will also be screened at other festivals before it becomes available for all of us mouth watering fans desperately waiting to view what is sure to be an amazing film and more importantly, a great tribute to an extraordinary man.
