Remember all those glorious Band of Outsiders looks at the Vogue party we covered earlier this summer? We adore Scott Sternberg’s prep-school chic looks, and we’ve been perusing them in our minds as we prepare for fall shopping. But what we love even more are the offbeat ad campaigns he does – with nothing more than a 70s-era Polaroid and cool celeb friends like Jason Schwartzman, John Dewis and Matt Dallas.
This season, it’s Michelle Williams. According to WWD, Sternberg and Williams camped out at Paul Fortune’s house for a simple, three-hour session of seven looks, just two of which were on the fall runway.
The photos are perfect: They’re simple, they show off the clothes, and Williams looks adorable “snooping in a stranger’s house” wearing Boy by Band of Outsiders. No makeup, no hair, no lights.
It’s also very in tune with Sternberg’s vision for his label, which is all about dressing a real person, sans hired models or touchups. “We were just laughing and talking all day. They are not supposed to be self-important and serious [shots]. It’s the antithesis of all that,” he said. WWD also reports that Sternberg traded in runways for a film starring friends. “I'm doing a totally alternative thing because I can't bring myself to do a runway show,” he said. “I don't make runway clothes. These are clothes you wear on the street, so I'm just super-uncomfortable with it. It puts it in totally the wrong context -- I want to do something closer to where the clothes are, and let people actually touch and feel them as opposed to seeing them on a 14-year-old anorexic model."
