NY Fash Week: Sue Stemp by Sue Stemp

Last Friday, the first official day of fashion week, I held a presentation of my Fall 2008 collection at the Norwood club here in New York. It was the first real fashion event to be held at the new private arts club on W. 14th Street which is an amazing 4-story listed mansion that has been re-decorated by Simon Costin, so it was a bit of a coup. I'd also never really held a presentation before, but this season I felt that a 2 hour intimate champagne event would be more applicable to the clothes, give more editors the chance to stop by and get a closer look...plus more fun!

The collection was titled " About A Girl." I showed 20 looks and used not only real models but roped in some of my lovely, supportive and ever glamorous girlfriends to wear the collection too. These included Leigh Lezark from the Misshapes, Theodora Richards, Nathalie Rock (Mick's daughter), Kate Elson, British photographer Poppy DeVilleneuve, girl about town Kate Schelter and Sarah Sophie Flicker from the Citizens band.

Behind-the-scenes

Note from RunwaytoRetail.com: Sue Stemp is the epitome of what a great designer should be. She makes incredible party dresses that actually get you excited about going out on the town in. But, she's also incredibly gracious! We are so happy she took out the time to blog for us! We loved how she was inspired by some of our favorite fashion icons for this collection - the 70s "it" girls who went to Maxim's in Paris, including Jane Birkin, Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot. We are excited to see what Stemp does season after season. For more information, visit www.suestemp.com. And, if you want to stay on top of her exciting life in the fashion world, visit her very own blog at www.suestemp.blogspot.com.
